In 2022, there are 23 approved Medical Marijuana Treatment Center licenses, and 375 dispensary locations in Florida.

 

These dispensaries or, MMTC's, can legally sell medical marijuana products to approved patients, with a valid medical marijuana (MMJ) card.  

 

The current Laws allow licensed dispensaries in Florida to operate up to, 28 physical locations each.

 

Although, Trulieve was recently approved to open a total of 103 locations and has plans to integrate even more Florida dispensaries in 2022.

Will My Insurance Cover The Cost of Medical Marijuana in Florida dispensaries?

 

If you are like most people you want to know if insurance will cover the cost of your medicine? The answer is, unfortunately, no, because the federal cannabis laws conflict with the state's laws.

 

To be more clear, the approved dispensaries in Florida would love to take insurance payments for medical marijuana.

 

However, they can't because nationwide insurance companies adhere to federal laws and regulations, which superseded local state laws. Marijuana reform on the federal level is needed before insurance companies will cover the cost of medicinal marijuana in any state.

Do I need to Bring My Medical Marijuana Card to the Dispensary?

 

When you visit any Florida dispensary location to buy medicine the first thing they ask for is your medical marijuana card.

 

However, you don't technically need it because the OMMU provides you with a patient ID number when you're approved.

 

The only thing you need is a state-issued identification to prove who you are to the dispensary. They will verify your status with the state of Florida via your ID and patient number.

 

If you're in good standing and currently approved there's no problem buying your medicine. 

 

Although it's always a good measure to carry your medical marijuana card with you when buying and transporting your cannabis home from the dispensary.

 

The cops won't verify you're status with the OMMU, and you may get into legal trouble if you're driving home with your prescription and no MMJ card.
